Need to pay your water/sewer bill? Make a payment online through GR PayIt or explore your other options.

Step 1.Before we get started

A couple of notes on GR PayIt:

  • Security. Rest assured that your payment information is encrypted when it's submitted and securely stored by a third party. These practices are PCI DSS compliant.
  • Goodbye processing fees.There are no processing fees when making payments for water bills, paying for parking tickets or adding funds to your refuse account in GR PayIt.

Step 2.Payment timeline

When you make a payment through GR PayIt, the payment goes through the following business day by noon. If you make a payment on a holiday, it'll be posted the following business day by noon. Check out the water bill payment options to decide which one works best for you.

Step 3.Payment date

Need more time? We can extend your due date by 4 days if all of these apply to you:

  • Your account is in good standing
  • Your bill is not past due
  • You call before your bill due date

Call us to determine if you're able to extend your due date. Our number is in the Contact Us section of this page. We're open Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Keep in mind that we're closed on weekends and holidays.

Step 4.Decide your payment option

You can pay online with credit/debit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express) or eCheck. You can also have your bill amount automatically deducted from your checking or savings account if you signup for autopay (see step 8).

Step 5.Make your payment

Login to GR PayIt and create a user account. Use the Water Bot to link your water account (you may link more than one water account to your user account). Choose your method of payment. We'll process your payment with no added fees.

Pay it online

Step 6.Sign up for autopay

Set up autopay in GR PayIt. Once you're set up, the full amount of your water/sewer bill will be deducted from your checking or savings account. Paying your water bill in GR PayIt means no added fees!

If your check is returned for non-sufficient funds (NSF) you'll be responsible to pay your bank charges and an additional $30 returned fee to the City.

Step 7.Enroll in paperless billing

You can go green and stop receiving paper bills in the mail by signing up for paperless billing. Simply “Manage eBilling” to enroll your water account in paperless bills. We’ll email you when your new bill is ready. If you wish to start receiving paper bills again, the Water Bot can help you unenroll from paperless billing.

Step 8.View your current or past water bills

You can use eServices to get a copy of your current or previous water bills. We'll walk you through how to create an account or log in to view current or past water bills.

Step 2.Preparepayment

Make your check or money order out toGrand Rapids City Treasurer. Write your account number on the memo line of the check or money order. Keep in mind that it takes 5-7 business days for the US Postal Service to deliver mail to us. Make sure to mail your payment at least 5-7 business days before your payment is due.Check out the water bill payment optionsto decide which one works best for you.

Step 3.Mail your payment

Mail your check or money order (with your account number written in the memo line) to Grand Rapids City Treasurer at the address listed in the Contact Us section.

Step 4.We'll process your payment

We process payments 2 business days after we receive them in the mail. The only exception is if there's missing information. If we see that you missed some information, we'll call or email you to resolve it and process your payment.

Step 3.Give us a call

We use a third party called ACI Payments, Inc. to take payments over the phone. Call 1-877-495-0333 and select option 2 to make your payment. You'll need to have your water account number ready. You can find this:

  • On your bill
  • By looking it up here
  • By calling 311 or 616-456-3000. We're open Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Keep in mind we're closed on weekends and holidays

It takes 2 business days for your payment to post to your account. If you make your payment on the weekend or on a holiday the payment will post two business days later.

Step 3.Park and Pay at City Hall

Pay in person at City Hall to have your payment immediately posted to your account. We'll validate 30 minutes of free parking in the Government Center Ramp while you make your payment. We'll give this to you at the counter. We don't validate for metered parking.

Step 4.Drop off your payment after hours

Pay when it's convenient for you and drop off your check or money order payment in the dropbox. We empty the dropbox at 8:00 am and process payments in 2 business days. If you drop off your payment after 8:00 am, we'll collect and process it two business days after that.

You can find the dropbox across the street from City Hall at 300 Ottawa Ave NW.

Ottawa is a one-way street heading south and the dropbox will be on your left, the east side of the street.
