Research shows that inflation , digital transformation and climate change stands out as the top 3 of the biggest challenges ofthe Insurance industry in 2023.
“Overall, it will be difficult for insurers to make a profit from premiums and maintain penetration rates in the short term. It may be wise to take a long-term approach to try and keep existing customers happy and gain new ones by offering consumers more flexibility as financial difficulties increase at the start of 2023.” says Ben Carey-Evans, Senior Insurance Analyst at GlobalData
Inflation was named as the top challenge for 2023 by more than one-third of insurance sector insiders, according to a survey. Other important topics like digitization, climate change, legislation, COVID-19, cybercrime, and geopolitics lagged behind it by a wide margin.
Challenge #1: Inflation
It has been predicted that insurers will experience inflationary pressure in terms of the cost of operating their businesses and that claims expenses will increase as a result of the rising cost of materials and labor.
Challenge #2:Digital transformation
Faced with unprecedented change the insurance industry is at a pivotal inflection point. many insurance companies will experience a massive shift in their traditional business model, likely driven by one of their top business challenges including:
a.Competition (Legacy insurance companies are forced to compete with new entrants leveraging advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and the proliferation of sensors and IoT devices )
b. Legacy systems (Translating paper-based information into a digital format has traditionally been a bottleneck for insurance companies attempting digital transformation initiatives.)
c. Rising customer expectations (Focus on the customer is driving innovation and changing how insurance services are rendered.)
d.Reduced and remote workforce (It requires not only a robust infrastructure to support a virtual workforce, but all the digital transformation necessary to meet the demands of consumers. )
Challenge #3:Climate Change
Insurance firms are struggling to survive as natural catastrophes are occurring more frequently and costing more money. This has an impact on the real estate market as well as the overall economy. The insurance industry will need to reform if it is to survive the coming storms.
There are companies that can relieve agency owners of chores that may be delegated to virtual assistants, allowing them to concentrate on expanding their business and taking on these issues head-on.
