Does PayPal really protect the buyer? ›

If your eligible purchase doesn't arrive, or doesn't match the seller's description, we can reimburse you.

What's not Covered? Intangible items like services, real estate, motorized vehicles (of any kind), custom made items, travel tickets, industrial machinery (for manufacturing), prepaid or gift cards, anything you buy in person, or items that violate PayPal's policies or eBay's policies.

We don't reveal your financial information to sellers. And if something goes wrong with an order and your transaction qualifies for Buyer Protection, we'll reimburse you for the full purchase price plus any original shipping costs.

PayPal's buyer protection service is generally reliable and provides a level of protection for buyers. It offers coverage for eligible purchases if they do not arrive or are significantly different from the seller's description.

That helps the buyer and the seller to quickly get relevant, just-in-time details on the package's location. The absence of such data means you'll lose the dispute. PayPal will automatically side with the customer if you don't have trackable proof of delivery.

PayPal's Security Measures

If an order paid using PayPal doesn't arrive, you can report it and get a refund. If an unauthorized purchase is made on your account, you're not liable for it if it is reported within 60 days.

When you pay with your bank account, we'll automatically transfer the refund to your bank account. Once issued, refunds usually take up to 5 business days to complete. Some refunds may take up to thirty days, depending on the status of the payment at the time the refund was issued.

Select Open Cases and find the transaction. Click the Case ID in the Case column. Click Issue Refund. Enter either a full or a partial refund amount to resolve, and add a note if needed.

For Unauthorized claims or Item Not Received (INR) claims filed through the PayPal Purchase Protection program, if you provide the relevant information as outlined in the PayPal Seller Protection, and the claim is decided in your favor, the money will be released to you.
