Tomura Shigaraki has a metamorphosis throughout My Hero Academia. Although he’s always been a terrifying villain, he has become practically unstoppable in Season 7. Shigaraki has been responsible for many of the show's most savage and terrifying acts, but some stand out as the worst.
The most savage things Shigaraki has done don’t pass his notice, though. Although he acts like his heinous behavior doesn’t affect him, fans can see that way of thinking isn’t true. Shigaraki continues to be molded by his actions, regardless of whether he acknowledges it or not. Shigaraki’s most savage acts have taken the most significant toll on him and who he is as a person, especially by Season 7.

By doing so, the League of Villains can then gain Dr. Garaki’s help and have full access to all his knowledge and creations.
Shigaraki and Gigantomachia fight for over a month. Finally, their repeated scrapes are enough for Shigaraki to take the lead. Even though Gigantomachia saves his final decision until after Shigaraki fights Re-Destro, Shigaraki knows he has the enormous villain on the ropes. Tomura Shigaraki's dark past and terrifying quirk have made him the ultimate antagonist.
After the hullabaloo of the Sports Festival and the students' grapple with the Hero Killer: Stain, Class 1-A is eager to begin the next chapter of their training at the Summer Training Camp. In anticipation of the camp, the students decide to take a trip to the mall to get supplies. They all seem to be having a great time together until Deku is approached by a strange fan.
The fan turns out to be Shigaraki in disguise. It’s an unexpectedly bold move from the shadowy villain. Shigaraki threatens Deku by placing a hand around the boy’s neck with only a finger or two hovering above, that would activate Decay. Although nothing happens, other than Deku getting scared out of his mind, this was a brazen threat for Shigaraki to make to a student in such a public place. Shigaraki’s decision shows that he’s watching Deku, and puts Deku on higher alert from him later down the line. Shigaraki basically reveals his hand to Deku without realizing it.
8 Tenko Shimura Becomes Tomura Shigaraki
Season 5, Episode 112 "Tomura Shigaraki: Origin"
Although it’s not his idea, Tenko Shimura - now Tomura Shigaraki - is taken in by All For One and becomes his protégé. All For One is only interested in the rage that fills the young boy’s eyes and hopes to keep that flame alive by doing the unthinkable. He somehow managed to retrieve Tenko’s deceased family members’ hands and places them on the boy to remind him of his hate.
The hands make young Tomura sick, but All For One insists that he wears them. Rather than taking them off and rejecting his caretaker, Shigaraki chooses to keep them. He wears them for most of the series - only taking them off on certain occasions until the League of Villains begins escalating. No matter how much hatred one has for their family, it takes someone who is completely numb to continue wearing the dead body parts of their late family almost a decade after their demise. The hands keep him in his anger-filled state to the point that he thinks of nothing else but destroying the world.
7 Shigaraki Lets His New Form Loose
Season 7, Episode 144 "Division"
The Heroes think they have Shigaraki on the rocks when they separate him from the rest of All For One’s lackeys in their floating battle arena, The Coffin in the Sky. However, Shigaraki has an ace up his proverbial sleeve when a new aspect of his being makes itself known.
Because of New Order’s havoc and with All For One taking control of his mind, Shigaraki’s body begins to accommodate such a heavy load. This causes one of his hands to sprout an unending mass of fingers that quickly fills the Coffin in the Sky and creates even more obstacles for the Pros to fight against. Shigaraki uses this new form to land even more attacks, making him more deadly than before.

My Hero Academia's Tomura Shigaraki Has Become the New Griffith
In recent MHA episodes, Tomura faced his old family members and rejected them all in favor of true power as a villain. He's made his decision.
After fighting Giantomachia for so long, Shigaraki becomes even more intimately aware of his Decay Quirk. He knows its limits, and his strength with it greatly improved while he was sparring with the large villain. This turns out to be devastating news for his next opponent, Re-Destro. Re-Destro is a very powerful being. The more stressed he is, the stronger he gets. During a fight, he can even store the stress to release it at the right moments.
He is certainly a formidable foe. However, one touch from Shigaraki’s enlightened Decay Quirk, and Re-Destro is rendered practically immobile. Re-Destro loses both his legs in the fight and concedes to Shigaraki’s power. This changes Shigaraki’s self-worth and inflates his importance in the Villain community. After this one battle, Shigaraki has not only realized his true potential as a Quirk user but also becomes the leader of the Paranormal Liberation Front, which is much bigger than the League of Villains.
5 Shigaraki Gets Revenge
Season 4, Episode 77 "Bright Future"
When Overhaul is captured by the police, the League of Villains decides to take things into their own hands. Still angered that Overhaul killed one of their own, the members of the League break Overhaul out of the armored car he’s being carried in to take custody of him themselves.
In an act of retribution, Shigaraki Decays one of Overhaul’s arms and cuts it off, while Mr. Compress takes the other arm by shrinking it down until it snaps off. This renders Overhaul’s Quirk useless. This act of violence shows a surprising loyalty on Shigaraki’s part. However, it also demonstrates that there isn’t anything too violent that Shigaraki wouldn’t do. This sentiment only gets worse as the story continues.
4 Shigaraki Defeats The U.S.'s Top Hero
Season 7, Episode 140 “Specter”
When the American Pro Hero Star and Stripe flies into Japanese Airspace, Shigaraki - now linked to All For One - seizes the opportunity to fight. The battle is tense, thanks to Star and Stripe’s New Order Quirk. However, Shigaraki and All For One came with advanced knowledge.
They predict her Quirk’s limitations, and effectively neutralize them. Eventually, Shigaraki gets close enough that he Decays Star and Stripe, but not before she releases her New Order Quirk into his already fragile body. She commands New Order to destroy all the other Quirks inside Shigaraki, causing him to lose his stockpile. This takes weeks for him to recover, but also helps him to unlock even more potential from his initial Decay Quirk.
3 Shigaraki Makes A Violent Debut
Season 6, Episode 118 "The Thrill Of Destruction"
After gaining Gigantomachia’s trust, Dr. Garaki allows Shigaraki to go through an experiment to become even stronger. Shigaraki knows that the procedure will be excruciating, but he’ll do anything to get an edge. He is put through the rigor and eventually placed in a stasis tank until he’s ready to be revived. However, he is inadvertently released during the War Arc.
The moment Shigaraki wakes up, he immediately kills one of the Pro Heroes and sets out to destroy the entire underground facility. This not only gives Shigaraki the satisfaction of becoming even stronger but also shows him how good his augmentations are. This changes Shigaraki’s perspective on himself and shows him what a world ruled by him would be like.

My Hero Academia Theory: Tomura Shigaraki and Tenko Shimura Are Separate People
If this theory is true and Shigaraki is a separate personality in Tenko Shimura, then it could give the Heroes a way to beat him without killing him.
Tenko Shimura (Tomura Shigaraki’s real name) was very young when his Decay Quirk activated. Because he was so upset, he accidentally decayed his dog and then his other family members as they rushed to see what was wrong. Each of the family members was an accident, until his father, Kotaro found the boy. Tenko felt all the rage he had ever had towards his abusive father well up and purposefully touched his dad with his new Quirk.
It was a split-second decision, but it set Tenko on his journey of hatred. His father’s attitude toward Heroes inadvertently bled into him after no one was there to help him when he lost his entire family. Although Tenko hated his father for his negative beliefs about heroes, Tenko grew up to be against the Heroes, just like his dad.
1 Shigaraki Eliminates A Threat
Season 7, Episode 149 “Light Fades To Rain”
While trapped in the Coffin in the Sky with several Heroes, Shigaraki lets loose his new, monstrous form. However, that doesn’t deter the Heroes from fighting, especially Katsuki Bakugo. Bakugo is fresh off his reconciliation with Deku and keeps thinking about how Deku would never give up in a fight, no matter who he was fighting against. Bakugo gets knocked down briefly but continues to mutter something until he sees an opening.
When he finally does, Bakugo leaps at his chance to get an edge on Shigaraki. Unfortunately, Shigaraki is so much more powerful now that he and All For One are the same that Shigaraki easily figures out Bakugo’s plan. He slashes the teen and throws him across the arena. Best Jeanist rushes to his side, but it appears to be too late. This instance proves how much Shigaraki doesn’t care about anyone else, since he has no qualms about ending a teenager’s life.
