Hi everyone! By the time this post goes live, tomorrow will be my birthday!! So, this is a birthday dedicated post!! Typically, my birthday always falls on or around Memorial Day Weekend so there is always something to do.

Made by a Fabricista: Me Made May (2)

For this post I challenged myself to make 3 pieces as I am always building my wardrobe. I now have a closet that is about 90% handmade. I love the theme in May as Me Made May where sewists post handmade looks every day for the entire month. I think it’s helpful to see what you have and what you can build upon in your closet. I would sew a lot of non-practical garments, as gorgeous as they were, I could not wear them day to day and found myself mostly sewing for social media posts. That has since changed, and I am pretty much #memadeeveryday!

My first garment is this fun blazer that I may using a printed Mikado from Kimberly Goldson. She is one of my favorite designers and I love that I get to use this fabric to create my own look. I used Simplicity #S9825 for a simplicity pattern I would say this is more of an advanced pattern. I started thinking it would be a quick make, but it includes detailed tailoring techniques. It’s a great pattern to learn and improve your skills.

For the second look I created a set. I saw this pretty pink denim and just knew I had to have it. Colored denim is so much to work with and make moving away from the traditional hues of blue. I love the trend of the barrel jeans I saw some inspiration to recreate them with side cut outs and I absolutely love them. Even though I know that these are a trend right now I don’t think the shape is too exaggerated to not last through seasons.

I used Know Me Pattern #ME2052. I determined where I wanted the leg seam to start. From there I lengthen the lower panel. Sewing them both partially together and allowing the sides to stay open.

The top was a very quick and easy sew, it is the Clay Blouse which is a free PDF pattern. Cropped camp shirts are so on trend right now and I used this hot pink voile fabric. It's super lightweight and slightly see through, and 100% cotton making it perfect for summer. The pattern has kimono sleeves and it's sewn with French seams it has an all-in-one collar which makes it for a quick sew. I love the monochromatic look however both pieces can be worn separately further adding to my wardrobe.

Made By A Fabricista: A great tee shirt pattern – or three!

ByFabric MartMonday, May 06, 2024

Hi fellow sewists! It’s Andrea @happy.things.here and I’m here today to talk tee shirts! I love a good tee pattern…or two…or four. Despite having more than enough of them in my pattern collection, I’m always up for trying a new one. And I also have my favorites and tried and trues (TNTs). I love the versatility of a good tee pattern – dress it up with fancy fabrics to make a work wardrobe piece, use a high quality solid to add some basics, or anything in between. Today I’m sharing three patterns I’ve used multiple times and with many different kinds of fabrics - all a little different and all great beginner patterns too. First up is the newest addition to my pattern collection – the Upland tee and crop top by Rivet Patterns. They are a newer designer who I recently discovered when this tee pattern caught my eye. I love that it has multiple bodice options including a classic design tee and also a crop version with different separate and uniquely shaped bodice pieces. I first made the

Danesha from Classyfied Life So first I must say that this entire challenge has been just that...a challenge! Two weeks ago there was hurricane Irma and I was blessed enough to not lose power and then I went out into the aftermath to capture some photos of my submission. Then two weeks ago I had a big trip planned so I had to do EVERYTHING in two days . Then the BIGGEST challenge of all...THIS week! I got the challenge and I was super excited to have an extra few days and then before I could even get started I ended up in the eme

Made By A Fabricista: Ilma Smock Dress

ByFabric MartMonday, April 29, 2024

Hello friends. My name is Byrd and I am a self-taught dopamine-loving curvy sewist. I’m super excited to share my first Fabricista make. This is the Named Clothing Company Ilma Smock Dress in a yummy Black/Pink/Emerald Retro Floral Print Challis. The Ilma Smock Dress is a fun flirty off the shoulder dress with a wavy tiered hem and elasticized neckline. There is also a top version. Let’s get into the details. Fabric choice is everything. Fabric Mart’s Retro Floral Challis was perfect for the Ilma Dress. The fabric is light, soft, smooth and has a gorgeous drape. I immediately fell in love with the print. The vibrant bright orange, pink, green and blue set against the black background will set you apart in any setting. The Ilma Smock Dress is officially rated as an intermediate pattern but there are no buttonholes of zippers. I’d personally rate the pattern beginner advanced. The instruction booklet is detailed with easy-to-follow diagrams. The pattern is designed for a p
